Josué Ramírez

Josué is an anthropologist, urban ethnographer, writer and a native of New York. He grew up in a large working class Puerto Rican family in East Harlem and was awarded a scholarship at Brown University to study anthropology. He completed his doctorate at Brown in 2002.
Josué is interested in studying urban life in New York and how it unfolded historically in the 19th and 20th centuries. Through his paintings he wants to go backwards in time to see New York as it rose from a quiet port town to become what is arguably the most powerful city in the world. In his art he wants to recapture the creativity and vitality of the streets of Old New York.

Josué es un antropólogo, etnógrafo urbano, escritor y original de Nueva York. Creció en una familia puertorriqueña de clase trabajadora en East Harlem y que recibió una beca en la Universidad de Brown para estudiar antropología. Completó su doctorado en Brown en 2002.
Josué está interesado en estudiar la vida urbana en Nueva York y especialmente el desarrollo histórico de los siglos 19 y 20. A través de sus cuadros intenta regresar en el tiempo para ver a Nueva York como era antes, un puerto tranquilo, para convertirse posiblemente en la ciudad más poderosa del mundo. En su arte quiere recuperar la creatividad y la vitalidad de las calles del antiguo Nueva York.
